Day in the Life of Using Digital Media

Social media is so ingrained in our everyday lives that it is hard to think about what is done everyday, as it’s a habit.

The social media I tend to use most day-to-day is Facebook. I pop on to see what notifications I have. If I have time, I scroll and save posts from cousins to add to the newsletter for weddings, births, etc.

Facebook is a great way to gather friends and family together to let them know at one time what is going on in your life, or share memes with them. I started a Facebook group for my Shockey cousins and have now extended it to researchers of the Shockey surname and its variants.

If I am on a trip, I tend to use Instagram more to post images of what I’ve seen or been to, which cross-posts to my Facebook page. Instagram is a great place to showcase images of all kinds, whether it’s food, places, or people.

I have positive reactions when using certain types of digital media, most of the timeAs mentioned above, I tend to use Facebook more as it is not just images, plus, I can connect with my friends and family more with it. I love being able to share images of places I’ve been on Instagram or to show off gorgeous plates of food.

Negative reactions would be getting distracted by reels. While entertaining, this can sometimes feel like a negative aspect of digital media, as it makes it easy to lose track of time.

I never thought much about the use of digital media in marketing today until Taylor Swift’s new album “The Life of a Showgirl” was announcedWhen marketing people got a glimpse of the colors for the albumthey went crazy. I can’t remember who stated it, but essentially everyone had to immediately redo all their branding for the next few days of social media to go along with Taylor’s album. Whether it was the sparkling orange or “The Life of a...” tagline. I remember someone creating an album of all the marketing images that popped up in Taylor’s Vault group. Everyone wanted to have a piece of the Swift pie and jumped into it full throttle with amazing results. This showed me how quickly digital media influences marketing strategies and how brands use social platforms to stay relevant in real time.
